Spider Veins and Skin Spots
For spots (red or brown), intense pulsed light targets certain melanin and/or pigmented problem areas in the skin (called chromophores) that cause discoloration.
Many hyperpigmentation and problem pigment areas are related to sun damage and the natural aging process. For removal of pigmented lesions, light from a selected bandwidth is absorbed by the dark melanin pigment in the treatment area and converted to heat. The heat causes the pigment in the lesion to coagulate and eventually slough off as the skin normally exfoliates.
If your pigmented lesions resulted from over exposure to the sun or tanning beds, it will be necessary to refrain from these activities and wear good quality sun block to prevent further occurences.
For removal of aging spots or brown spots the number of treatments is based on the depth and type of lesion. From one to four treatments are generally required for the removal of epidermal or superficial lesions. For deeper dermal lesions, more treatments are usually required.
When eliminating spider veins and broken capillaries the intense pulsed light targets certain problem areas in the skin, in this case, blood in a tiny vessel. The surrounding tissue is left unaffected. By coagulating the blood within the vessels, the intense pulsed light reduces redness, flushing and related vascular conditions. We are able to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of spider veins, rosacea and other vascular lesions.
Again, based on a variety of factors, including the depth and location of the blood vessel, most patients require from four to six treatments for satisfactory clearance. Some conditions will require additional treatment and different types of treatments.
